In 2018, EFL Global became a member of the United Nations Compact. Since then, the global logistics organization has aligned its business objectives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These 17 goals are an urgent call for action by all countries to participate in strategies that promote peace and prosperity for the people and planet.
In 2019, EFL Global adopted 600 acres of Bundala National Park in Sri Lanka to replant 125,000 trees over five years. Bundala National Park is one of the most recognized wetlands for birds, becoming the first wetland to be declared a Ramsar site in Sri Lanka, with a diverse range of flora and fauna. However, the park faces an ongoing threat to the habitats of birds and wildlife because of invasive plant species. The flagship project was titled Revive Bundala under the Global Goodness program, and directly supports SDG 14: Life Below Water and SDG 15: Life On Land.
Today, more than 90,000 saplings have been planted, with the project in its fifth and final phase. Since 2019, EFL Global’s employees as well as employees from other subsidiaries volunteered to support the planting process, highlighting the importance the provider has placed on environmental conservation and sustainability.
Additionally, EFL Global supports local communities residing near the park through employment opportunities and by supporting the education of the children of Bundala Primary School. The Bundala Primary School is one of the oldest academic institutions in Sri Lanka. The EFL Global team has provided essential school items, such as bags, notebooks, water bottles, and instrument boxes to all students.
In the last quarter of the year, EFL Global will rally its employees and other volunteers to complete the final stage of the project. The final planting of the Revive Bundala Project will be held between October and November 2023, with the goal of planting 33,200 saplings.
